✨ Two Kinds of Holiness
Romans 4:2–3 — “If Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. For what does the Scripture say? ‘Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.’”
1. Holiness Before Men (Uprightness)
This is how people see you — through your deeds, morality, and good works.
By law, upright living, and good deeds.
People may call you “holy” because you appear righteous before them.
But this does not make you right before God.
📖 Verses:
Luke 18:9 — “He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and treated others with contempt.”
Philippians 3:6 — Paul said, “As for righteousness based on the law, faultless.” (before men)
Romans 10:3 — “For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God.”
2. Holiness Before God (True Righteousness)
This is only by Jesus’ blood and faith in His sacrifice.
No man can ever be holy enough before God by himself.
God sees us righteous only through Christ.
📖 Verses:
Romans 3:10 — “There is none righteous, no, not one.”
Romans 4:2–3 — “If Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about—but not before God. Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.”
2 Corinthians 5:21 — “God made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.”
Hebrews 10:10 — “We have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”
3. The Witness of Water, Blood, and Spirit (1 John 5:6–8)
Water →
📖 1 John 5:6–8
“ we tend not to sins against men which is blood, waters, and spirits. This uprightness allow us to live a life free from issues on earth, example some people fight curses because their father had something in sins with spirits like idols spirits as covenant, some slept with water people and all that. God can save us. But uprights allow us to leave a life free from issues on earth and attacks with dominant ”
4. Practical Application
Sins against men → go, beg forgiveness, make peace (Matthew 5:23–24).
Sins before God → only Jesus’ blood forgives (Hebrews 9:22).
✅ Conclusion:
Before men → holiness is uprightness, law, good deeds.
Before God → holiness is only through the blood of Jesus.
Both agree with the witness of water, blood, and the Spirit (1 John 5:6–8).
